About Godfrey Sports

Godfrey Textiles was founded in 1978, when my brothers were rowing on the international circuit.

Like many other rowers, they couldn't buy the kind of clothing they wanted to wear in the boat, so they asked me to design and produce specialist kit.

I started with simple garments such as towelling shorts (remember those?!) with double seats, and then went on to introduce all-in-one suits and the Godfrey waterproof, a first for rowing.

Just before the 1986 World Championships, we moved production from my front bedroom to a shared factory unit and demand for our garments grew and grew.

Since our early days we have constantly developed new specialist garments and accessories, introduced ranges designed for schools and universities and continued to lead the way in providing customised kit. We are definite market leaders for others to follow and attempt to copy.

We have branched out into a number of other sports (see www.sports-wear.co.uk for details), renamed ourselves Godfrey Sports and in April 2005, we moved into an even larger industrial plant to increase our production capacity and keep up with demand!

Recently, we have invested more time, effort and money in to developing new products, finding the best performing fabrics available and of course, designing kit for the fashion-conscious rower.

We also have all the best tools available for personalising your kit with either print or embroidery and there will be further developments in this area coming in the summer of 2006.

Our new range of mail order kit is designed for rowers with all sorts of different needs and budgets. From the big, hairy, sweaty senior men, to project oarsome kids, to budget-conscious students and everybody looking for something unique, we believe we offer you the best choice, the best quality, the best service and of course, the best prices!

I hope you enjoy the site and find all the kit you need!
